I’m back from Birmingham, Alabama along with Civitans Cathy McCabe and Darlene Lambert. Have to say we did not get to do much shopping as the shopping centres were not in walking distance from the hotel. If you wanted to shop, it cost $20 each way, so four of us did split the cost one day so we could shop for a little bit.

As for the convention itself, it was very interesting and I did learn a bit more about Civitan and what is happening with different Civitan Clubs around the world. We hope to start more Civitan Clubs in Canada in the next few years.

In the upcoming months we hope to have an information night so we can let people in Petawawa and area find out just what Civitan is all about and what we are doing for the people in our area. I will have more information about this event in the upcoming weeks.

Well if you missed the Bingo on Sunday night, July 9, you missed out on winning the 52 Special as it was $2,000 and we did have a very lucky winner - he got it on the 52nd number. So you see it can go in 52 numbers or even less; it has gone in 46 and 48 numbers. Remember that the $1,000 Jackpot goes every week, and so does the Loony Pot.

By the way, the Greater Petawawa Civitan Club would like to invite you to come and join our Club and see just what we are doing for our community.

By the way, I was told that all it did while we were away was rain. We had rain down there, too, and we hit a bad rain storm about 50 miles from Birmingham. We could only drive around 20 to 30 miles an hour with the four way flashers on. We did a lot of praying and we made it safely to our hotel. Oh yes, they have the same five seasons we have in Canada: summer, fall, winter, spring and construction. Our 18 to 20 hour drive took us two and half days due to bad weather. Then coming home, we hit Toronto and that put us back about 2.5 to three hours. So once again it was over two days getting home and what did we hit? More rain. At least we got home safely and we had a good time, too.

I have to thank Darlene for doing most of the driving. I just wish there was some way we could bypass Toronto altogether.

Well I hope to see you all at the Bingo on Sunday night. The doors open at 5:30 p.m., early bird games start at 6:30 p.m. and regular games start at 7 p.m. So come and join in the fun and meet other people and have a chance to win some big money. Remember, when you support the Greater Petawawa Civitan Club Bingo you are helping us support those in our area that need help. Thank you to all those who have supported us over the years.

That’s all for this week God Bless,

Thought for the week: Be glad you woke up this morning and do something nice for someone.
