OTTAWA - While not admitting liability, the Government of Canada has agreed to a settlement regarding class action lawsuits initiated by seven former members of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) on behalf of current and former members of the CAF and current and former employees of the Department of National Defence (DND) and/or Staff of the Non-Public Funds, Canadian Forces, who experienced sexual harassment, sexual assault or discrimination based on sex, gender, gender identity or sexual orientation (“Sexual Misconduct”) in connection with their military service, and/or employment.

Lieutenant-General Jean-Marc Lanthier, Commander of the Canadian Army and reviewing officer for the departure parade, wished them safe travels as they prepare to depart for the Netherlands, where they will take part in the 103rd annual International Four Days Marches Nijmegen.

PROVINCE ANNOUNCES EXPANSION OF 417 to RENFREW
RENFREW, ON: Today Minister of Natural Resources and Forestry, John Yakabuski (MPP Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke) was joined by Warden Jennifer Murphy and several members of County Council along with a room filled with residents, municipal elected, staff and media for the announcement of the 22.5km expansion of Highway 17 to 4 lanes from Scheel Drive near Arnprior through to 3km west of Bruce Street near Renfrew. The ten year project will begin construction in the next 2 to 3 years, and will include four new interchanges.

Canadian Special Operations Regiment welcomes new Command Team
GARRISON PETAWAWA - The Canadian Special Operations Regiment (CSOR) held a Change of Command ceremony June 27 at Garrison Petawawa welcoming Lieutenant-Colonel (LCol) Michael Laplante as its new Commanding Officer (CO).
What is a Groundwater Monitoring Well?
Groundwater monitoring wells are installed by Garrison Environmental Services throughout Garrison Petawawa in order to ensure DND’s compliance with federal water quality guidelines and enables a better understanding of the groundwater flow directions. Between the Garrison and the range and training area there are over two hundred groundwater monitoring wells. Annual sampling is completed by the Garrison’s environmental technician and then sent to a certified lab for analysis. Typically the sampling program is divided into a summer and fall campaign.
Try sailing this summer in Deep River
DEEP RIVER - The Deep River Yacht and Tennis Club offers a summer sailing program of instruction and fun racing for youth and adults. Daily (9:00 AM to 4:00 PM) junior sailing classes for youth aged 8 - 17 start July 8 and run each week until August 16. A supervised lunch break is available, helpful for out-of-town students. Weekend adult sailing classes consist of 12 hours of instruction in a classroom and on the water. Participants have a choice of weekends: July 13 - 14 or July 20 - 21. All classes are taught to the Sail Canada curriculum under the direction of qualified instructors, with safety boats present at all times.
