Mural preserves memory of General Panet High School
General Panet High School (GPHS) Alumni honoured their alma mater by erecting a mural on the outside wall of the CANEX Supermart.

Police identify body recovered from Petawawa River
PETAWAWA - On May 24, members of the Upper Ottawa Valley Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded after human remains were located by a member of the public in the Petawawa River near West Street in the Town of Petawawa.

Canada Army Run is on the move
OTTAWA - As a result of a new partnership, Canada Army Run race weekend is moving to the Canadian War Museum. Having previously been hosted at Ottawa City Hall, all Army Run events will now take place at the Canadian War Museum, located on the scenic Ottawa River and LeBreton Flats parkland. This new venue will allow runners and visitors to have a fuller experience of Canada Army Run’s military origins.

Petawawa Golf Club
Petawawa Golf Club held their opening field day for members on Saturday, May 11.  The golfers were out in full force, swinging away in a scramble format.

News from the Silver Threads Seniors Club
The month is slowly coming to an end and with it, some of the regular weekly activities are coming to an end for the summer months.  The Tole Painters had their last session on Wednesday.  The other activities such as Bridge on Mondays are ongoing.  Fitness will take place once a week on Tuesday mornings at 11:30 a.m., Monday evening Yoga will continue during the summer.

Trinity Poil remembered for her beautiful soul at May 14 vigil
Members of the local community came together May 14 for a vigil honouring Trinity Poil, whose life was tragically cut much too short.

Changes to navigation restrictions related to flooding
OTTAWA - Last week, the Honourable Marc Garneau, Minister of Transport, issued a new Interim Order identifying zones in which navigation is prohibited due to flooding. The changes are necessary to protect the safety of people and vessels, and to help first responders do their jobs in flooding conditions.

The Petawawa CWL held their Monthly Meeting on May 6 with President Julie Mallory and members. The Welcome and Opening Prayer was the League Prayer and “Walk with Mary” Prayer.

Emergency flood response continues for Renfrew County
The Canadian Armed Forces’ response to the flooding continues as the waters remain high and Renfrew County remains under a state of emergency.

Search underway after report of female entering Petawawa River
The search continues for a person who is believed to have entered the Petawawa River from the rail bridge on May 5, just after 4 p.m. Currently, police believe that the person is a 17-year-old female from the Petawawa area that has been reported as missing by family.

Dog parks officially open on North and South Town Sites

Vegetable Gardening 101
The sounds and signs of spring are everywhere and it is a perfect time to start planning your vegetable garden. Gardens can range from large plots of land to small containers you can have on your deck. In Garrison Petawawa there are two community garden locations that have both your typical garden bed as well as raised garden beds.
