In response to the United Nations’ request for transport of COVID-19 related humanitarian and medical supplies, on behalf of the World Food Programme and the World Health Organization, the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) provided a CC-177 Globemaster and associated crew to provide airlift support out of Panama Pacifico Airport in Guatemala City, Guatemala between July 21 and August 3.

The Canadian Centre for Substance Use and Addiction (www.ccsa.ca) recently published a news bulletin speaking to an unfortunate side effect of the pandemic. Canadians have increased the amount of alcohol they are consuming while confined to their homes. Various reasons cited for the increase include uncertainty, boredom, loneliness, lack of structure, and stress. This has increased concerns for addiction within our communities. It’s important to have open conversations that are supportive and connect people with resources when needed.

Pembroke Petawawa District Community Foundation awards
final grants of $39,000 through the Emergency Community Support Fund
PEMBROKE - Thirty-nine thousand in additional grants was awarded by the Pembroke Petawawa District Community Foundation (PPDCF) to six of local charities: the Renfrew District Food Bank, Carefor Health & Community Services, OSPCA Renfrew County, Wesley Community Church, Elevate Youth Wellness Centre, Columbus House (Pembroke) Inc. and Les Coureurs de Bois of Petawawa to address such needs as a walk-in refrigerator and freezer to service Renfrew and Ottawa Valley food banks, an outdoor rooftop garden to enhance quality of life, sound equipment, a Community Pet Pantry, as well as programs for youth and for mental health. These grants are part of the Emergency Community Support Fund (ECSF), funded by the Government of Canada.
