In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Renfrew County Virtual Triage and Assessment Centre (RC VTAC) has launched today to strengthen access to primary care for all Renfrew County residents.

What is the Renfrew County Virtual Triage and Assessment Centre? The Renfrew County Virtual Triage and Assessment Centre (RC VTAC) is a new pandemic healthcare service to reduce the demand on Emergency Departments and provide Renfrew County residents, who do not have a family physician or cannot access their family physician, with the appropriate level of care when they have any health concern (including concerns related to COVID-19).

Before I start I want to thank you—the response in Pet has been aggressive, calibrated, and open, with excellent buy-in from our Commanders, Command Teams, and individual members.
Petawawa Chiefs Oldtimers Hockey Club hosts 38th Annual Tournament
The Petawawa Civic Centre was recently the site of a great weekend of hockey as the Petawawa Chiefs Oldtimers Hockey Club hosted their 38th Annual Oldtimers Hockey Tournament. A total of 16 teams in 4 divisions (3 divisions for players 35 and over and 1 open division for players 19 and over) played 4 games each from Friday March 6th to Sunday March 8th to earn bragging rights as the top team. Participants also enjoyed a dance at the Civic Centre Saturday night. Wayne Kelley from Lake of Bays won the Players Only Prize Draw held during the dance and went home with a new bar fridge.

Petawawa passes bylaw to allow Mayor, CAO to make decisions dealing with COVID–19
As COVID-19 continues to spread throughout Canada, the Town of Petawawa has created a bylaw giving the Mayor and CAO/Clerk power to take action and make necessary and critical decisions without the need to call a formal council or committee meeting.

News from the Silver Threads Seniors Club
The Town of Petawawa has a new vehicle to provide community transportation. Thanks to a $483,000 Ontario Community Transportation grant, Petawawa was able to partner with Carefor Health and Community Services and purchase an accessible RAM Promaster 3500. The vehicle will pick you up at your door and is able to accommodate a wheelchair and seven passengers and it can be used by seniors, persons with disabilities, those on low income and vulnerable youth.

Library closed, programs offered virtually
Despite being closed as a precautionary measure, the Petawawa Public Library has found alternative methods to bring literacy and fun directly into people's homes. Storytime will now be offered through live-streaming on their Facebook page, allowing children from any community to take part in the fun. The library will have twice-daily story and craft times at 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. posted on their Facebook page.

In February 2020, the Royal Military College of Canada (RMC), Strengthening the Forces Health Promotion Program and the Sexual Misconduct Response Centre collaborated to provide the Respect in the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) workshop simultaneously to over 200 students in Kingston, Ontario. This training was provided to foster the readiness of 4th year RMC students as future CAF leaders.

Opening ceremonies launch week-long Exercise OLYMPIAN BEAR
On March 2, Canadian Armed Forces personnel from units across 2 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group gathered at the Dundonald Hall field house to launch Exercise Olympian Bear 2020, a week-long sporting event for units to take part in fierce but friendly competition to promote esprit-de-corps, leadership and physical fitness.
Celebrating International Women’s Day 2020 on March 8
Since joining the Canadian Armed Forces in 1997, I have had the privilege to serve at home and abroad, deployed to Iraq and Bosnia, and live and train with both the British Army and the U.S. Marine Corps. As a married service couple, we have gone through 11 postings together, with our children experiencing 7 of those moves. The details are unimportant, my point is I am a proud mother, wife, and member of the CAF.

On the Road to High Readiness
As of July 1, 2019, 4th Canadian Division (4 Cdn Div) became the Division responsible for preparing soldiers to deploy on international and domestic operations in 2020/2021. Soldiers at the Division are undergoing a yearlong training program known as the Road to High Readiness (RTHR) to ensure they are ready to deploy.
