Pembroke, ON: Hiking in rural areas like the Ottawa Valley is the ideal way to safely and responsibly enjoy time together with family and friends who are part of your COVID-19 bubble.

Across Canada, however, many of the more popular trails have become very busy and overcrowded, creating general safety hazards and challenges to COVID-19 safety and public health precautions.

This has been the case in the Ottawa Valley and Renfrew County, with one trail in particular being visited excessively leading to road safety and public health concerns.

The Ottawa Valley Tourist Association (OVTA) has a solution.

“We encourage those seeking outdoor activities to enjoy the Ottawa Valley and all our hiking, spectacular scenery and wilderness experiences, and great food, unique shopping opportunities and picturesque towns and villages,” said OVTA Manager Alastair Baird.

“May we suggest that you visit our website at www.OttawaValley.travel and check out the “Things to Do” tab. There you will find our Valley Explore collection of hiking trails, scenic driving tours and resources for many other activities.” he added.

This collection of hiking trails, paddling routes, road cycling and mountain bike routes, snowshoe, cross-country, naturalist, waterfall and heritage trails provides many options for residents and visitors alike.

Valley Explore is presently being enhanced and expanded with new trail descriptions, pictures and mapping. The updated version will be mobile-friendly and will facilitate safe and responsible staycation and local tourism activities in response to COVID-19.
